Qualifications Recognition

The Quality and Qualifications Ireland (QQI) is responsible for developing and maintaining the National Qualifications Framework (NFQ) and for quality standards (Quality Assurance and Pastoral Care) in both the higher education sector and English Language schools.

Students are encouraged to use the National Framework of Qualifications to identify the qualification they will achieve before making decisions. Qualifications recognized through the NFQ are quality assured. This means that you can have confidence that your course, and the institution at which you are studying, are reviewed on an ongoing basis.

The Irish National Framework of Qualifications (NFQ) is intended to put you, the international student, at the centre of the education and training system in Ireland. The NFQ provides a structure (a framework) to understand, compare and contrast the level and standard of different qualifications. Scholarships in Ireland for Nepalese students

There are hundreds of scholarships available for Nepalese students and international students from a wide variety of sources such as the Government of Ireland, the Irish higher education institutions, and other organisations.

These are awarded solely at the discretion of the individual organisations that set down their own criteria for eligibility. Students are advised to contact the institution or organisation of their choice directly, to obtain more detailed information.

How to Apply Ireland by Nepalese students

Academic Entry Requirements

Students from Nepal, they can submit their academic documents which should be minimum as below.

  • For Bachelor programs
    GPA 2.5/65% and there should not be more than 3 years gap with work experience in related field.
    Some Universities do not accept 10+2 students from Nepal so they need A levels or IB Diploma.
  • For Master Programs
    50% or 2.4 GPA minimum and should not be more than 5 years gap with work experience in related field

While these may be true requirements for some colleges and universities, other institutions may have higher academic requirements. Please speak to our counselor/advisors regarding the requirements of each universities or colleges.

Applying for a Student Visa

HOW DO I APPLY FOR A STUDENT VISA?

  1. Prepare for your all documents: Application form, Financial Documents, Affidavit of Support, Conformation of Enrollment, Original Passport, passport sized color photo, Pay the visa fees, etc ( contact GIEC for details information and guidance)
  2. After 30-45 working days, check your visa status
  3. If your visa grants then book your flights to Ireland. Note: If you are refused a visa you may appeal the decision within 2 months.
  4. After arrival, make an appointment with the Irish Naturalisation and Immigration Service office with the Registration Office, and pay the €300 fee to be issued a residence permit.

Student Accommodation in Ireland

College students have a wide choice when it comes to accommodation. Some students choose to stay in on-campus accommodation, which is available in many colleges. On-Campus accommodation is always in demand so it can be quite expensive.

Most colleges have an Accommodation Office, a good first point of call for overseas students in their search for suitable accommodation. Accommodation can also be found through the local newspapers and estate agents in the cities. Websites such as Daft.ie, MyHome.ie or Universityliving.com also contain a large portfolio of rental properties.

It is generally not possible to reserve long term accommodation in advance, as owners of properties will not hold rooms without payment of rent.

Points to take into consideration when looking for accommodation:

  • Start your search for accommodation early
  • Do as much research as you can online, check out how close are they to the campus and how easy is it to get to the campus via public transport/walking/cycling etc
  • Budget correctly, don’t over extend and live within your means.

Health Insurance for international students in Ireland

Students from non-EU countries are not covered for any free medical attention off-campus and must therefore have their own private insurance. Please note that heavy levies are charged for all hospitalisation and it is advised to make provision for adequate medical insurance.

Non-EU students are required to show proof of comprehensive medical insurance when registering with the Garda National Immigration Bureau. Proof of health insurance is also required when applying for a student visa. So colleges and universities also help to get Medical insurance for student.

Airport Transfer

When you arrive in Ireland, you will be arriving into one of the international airports – Dublin Airport, Cork Airport or Shannon Airport. All three airports are served by bus, taxi and car hire services.

Further, bus and rail connections from nearby cities are available from services provided by Irish Rail, Bus Éireann and private coach companies to locations around Ireland.

In addition, onward flights to some regional airports are available from Aer Lingus and Ryanair.

Induction & Orientation

Induction and Orientation activities often act as the first point of direct contact between institutions, the international student, and your chosen institution, and so play an important role in:

  • Welcoming you to the institution.
  • Ensuring that you are familiar with the facilities and services that are available to you in the higher education institutions.
  • Introducing you to the structures and procedures of the higher education institution.
  • Ensuring you know where to go for guidance and support during your time here in Ireland as an international student.

 

Working in Ireland

International students engaged in full-time study of at least one year’s duration (on a course leading to a qualification which is recognised by the Irish Department of Further and Higher Education, Research, Innovation and Science currently do not need a work permit to work in Ireland.

Students holding a valid immigration stamp 2 permission will be permitted to work 40 hours per week only during the months of June, July, August and September and from 15th December to 15th January inclusive.

At all other times students holding Immigration permission Stamp 2 will be limited to working 20 hours per week.

Degree programme students can get casual work where they are:

  • Registered with GNIB
  • Enrolled on a recognised programme leading to a qualification recognised by the Minister for Education & Skills
  • Attending a full time programme of education at or above NFQ Level 7
  • Getting tuition, between the hours of 8am and 6pm per week for a minimum of 25 weeks per annum
  • On a programme of at least one year’s duration

International students who meet the above conditions and wish to take up work in Ireland must obtain a Personal Public Services Number (PPS Number). An employer can only pay employees with a PPS number, and funds will usually only be paid to an Irish bank account.

Students will also be required to comply with the Universal Social Contribution (USC), Pay Related Social Insurance (PRSI), employment laws and taxation requirements.

It is not uncommon to have a trial period before you are permanently hired. Ireland’s minimum wage is €10.50 per hour.

Internship in Ireland

Students enrolled on courses on the Degree Programme are allowed to undertake an internship where this forms part of their programme. This is subject to the following rules.

  • The internship or work placement part of the programme cannot exceed 50% of the duration of the programme e.g. a 4 year programme would permit 2 years of work placement. In addition, the employment cannot be in a self employed capacity.
  • Work placements as part of an academic programme must form an integral part of the programme which contributes to the final award.
  • Educational facilities must also ensure that the placements are suited to the programme being pursued.

Post Study Pathways for International Students ( Nepalese students)

It may be possible to stay in Ireland after you complete your studies for the purpose of seeking employment under the Irish Third Level Graduate Scheme.

This scheme exists to allow legally resident non-EU third level graduates to remain in Ireland in order to look for employment or apply for a green card/work permit.

  • During their approved stay under the scheme, a student can work full-time (40 hours a week).
  • Students with Bachelor degree can get 12 months post study work
  • Students with Master degree will get 24 months of post study work
